Indiana Masters Swimmer Recalls Ultimate Distance Journey

An engineer by training, a family man and an Indiana Masters swimmer, Dimitar Kalchev has traveled a good distance since his upbringing in Communist-controlled Bulgaria. In fact, few would ever guess that on Aug. 8, 1971, Kalchev swam 11 hours in the Black Sea to escape Bulgaria, risking his life to start anew.
